TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) - The above average heat and humidity continue through the day today. With the heat advisory in effect, everyone needs to take care to limit time in the heat from 11am-7pm and stay hydrated.

The first showers develop around noon, but the widespread downpours are expected later this afternoon and into the early evening.

We'll have a similar pattern through the weekend with morning sunshine and a round of scattered afternoon storms. Highs stay in the low-mid 90s.

Once the system enters the Gulf of Mexico this weekend, it gradually strengthens again and may bring high wind and storm surge to the Texas coastline early next week.
