TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Ernesto strengthened back to a hurricane on Sunday.
The system, which was downgraded to a tropical storm after making landfall as a Category 1 hurricane in Bermuda early Saturday morning, ramped up again, bringing dangerous beach conditions to the East Coast of the United States.
The National Hurricane Center said the storm is expected to remain "well offshore" but still affect the northeast through the next few days.
In a 5 p.m. update, Ernesto sat roughly 520 miles south of Nova Scotia and about 815 miles southwest of Cape Race Newfoundland. The storm has maximum sustained winds of 75 mph.

Bermuda has since discontinued its Tropical Storm Warnings after it passed through as a Category 1 hurricane on Saturday.
"Ernesto strengthened back to a hurricane, but the system is expected to gradually weaken over the next couple of days," Max Defender 8 Meteorologist Eric Stone said.
