TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) - Today we broke our record for high temperature when we hit 95° in Tampa. We also hit 95° in Ruskin, breaking that high temperature record for the day.

Tuesday will be mainly dry and quite hot again. There is a 20% chance for a few stray showers pushing across the state towards our coastline during the afternoon.

By Wednesday, some downpours arrive mainly south of I-4 as a tropical system arrives in the Gulf of Mexico.

The system will strengthen and move quickly to the north Wednesday and Thursday. While the exact location of landfall is uncertainly, whoever gets hit won't have much time to prepare once the system reaches the Gulf of Mexico.

Many of the computer models are taking it into the eastern Florida Panhandle, but until a defined center of circulation forms, we may see those tracks shift east or west. Stay tuned.

Expect tropical downpours throughout the day on Thursday, but even as the system heads north through the Southeastern U.S., a trail of tropical moisture spreads across the state. Rain chances remain elevated through the weekend.
