TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) -- The redfish bite is hot right now and will be for the next couple of months!

When targeting redfish, it's best to start looking for schools of mullet. Look around islands and grass flats for jumping or schools of mullet.
Once you quietly set up, cut bait is the easiest way to go right now, while the water temps are still cool.

A cut pinfish or chunked ladyfish will do. Redfish like that because they have a good sense of smell. They are also bottom feeders so having cut bait sitting on the bottom does well.
A long cast is key and it is important to have moving water across the grass flat or around an island.

Captain Ryan Harrington with No Bananas Sportfishing said it is most effective to put the rod in the rod holder and let it sit. He said if you're holding the rod, you're more prone to moving it around and dragging that bait around.
They are pretty fish with a variety of colors.

Their tail color changes based on what they eat. More crabs and crustaceans will turn their tail a metallic blue where as more fish and shrimp will give it more of a red color.

Their body color will change to lighter or darker depending on if they are clear blue water or darker tannin water to blend in.
Make sure to send Amanda Holly your pics of redfish if you're out catching them!
