Polk County sees hail amid severe weather

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Hail rained down on Polk County amid severe weather on Monday.

The county was under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 5:45 p.m. The Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for Highlands County until 7:45 p.m. has expired.

Locations impacted include Poinciana, Lake Wales, Dundee, Lake Hamilton, and Waverly.

The severe weather caused hail to rain down on the area. Two viewers shared photos of hailstones in Haines City.

Spotty showers will linger through this evening as temperatures stay warm.  Overnight, rain will taper off, but clouds stick around as lows only drop into the upper 70s. 

Showers and storms will continue Wednesday with a 60% chance both before and after lunch as highs rise to the upper 80s. It will also be rather gusty with wind speeds of 15-20 mph.

Isolated showers and storms return Tuesday with high humidity as temps rise to around 90 degrees.

Thursday and Friday will be drier with slightly lower humidity our breeze dies down. Lows will be in the mid 70s with highs in the low 90s. 

Rain chances will be slightly higher with isolated showers and storms coming back into the forecast. Lows will be in the upper 70s with highs staying in the low 90s. 

Rainfall totals for the next three days could range from as little as a half inch to as much as 2-3 inches.

Rain chances taper off early Thursday, and it stays drier for Friday.

It remains gusty with highs in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees for the rest of the week.
