TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Although cold fronts will be far less frequent heading into April, a strong front is on the way.

The week is starting out warm and muggy with highs above average in the low to mid-80s. No rain is in the forecast until Wednesday.

A strong cold front will pass through from north to south Wednesday bringing showers and thunderstorms.

As of Monday, a few showers are possible early Wednesday, but the main line of storms will arrive by late morning to the Nature Coast. The organized line of storms will move south through the day. Showers could linger through Wednesday night before clearing by sunrise Thursday.

There is a low chance for a severe thunderstorm or two. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the Tampa Bay area under a level 1 out of 5 on their risk scale for an isolated severe storm or two.

The main hazards possible in some the strongest storms will be damaging winds and small hail. Although the risk is low, an isolated water spout moving onshore cannot be ruled out either.

Rainfall totals will be highest north of I-4. A widespread swath of is 2-3 inches possible in Citrus, Hernando, and Pasco Counties. Locally higher amounts are expected.

Areas along and south of I-4 will see lower totals as the line of storms is expected to weaken as it moves south. Totals of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible with locally higher amounts.

Cooler and drier air will settle in Thursday through Saturday. Highs will be in the low 70s and lows will be in the 50s.
