TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) -- After several quiet weeks in the tropics, they are starting to wake back up with possible development over the next week.
This is expected— as tropical activity typically starts to ramp up heading to August.

The National Hurricane Center is highlighting an area of showers and thunderstorms for possible development. As of Saturday morning, the chances are up to 30% for the next seven days.
The NHC said the disturbed weather will interact with a tropical wave this weekend and could organize as it approaches the Lesser Antilles next week.
The longer-range European forecast model has been hinting at this development for several days now, but the American (GFS) model has been slow to jump on board with any sort of development.

The tropical wave, whether it develops or not, will be in the vicinity in about a week. It will be watched closely but for it to develop, it will need to overcome dry, dusty air surrounding it.

However, it will pass over plenty of warm water to help fuel any development.

"This is a tropical wave to watch over the next couple of days," Max Defender 8 Meteorologist Amanda Holly said. "It is too early to say if this will impact the Tampa area but it is important to check in over the next couple of days for new information. This is the beginning of what is likely to be an active few months."
