Tropical Storm Debby real-time wobble tracker

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tropical Storm Debby is expected to impact Florida in the coming days, according to the National Hurricane Center.

As it makes its way toward to the United States, we're tracking "wobbles," small movements on its path that could make an important difference on where the tropical system is headed.

While the movements may seem negligible at first glance, these wobbles do make a big different when they compound into a change in the storm's path.

This was the case when Max Defender 8 first launched the wobble tracker for Hurricane Ian, a category five hurricane that was originally expected to make a direct hit on Tampa Bay but "wobbled" further south to its landfall Charlotte County, Florida.

The wobble tracker tracks the motion of hurricanes and tropical storms by using a combination of data from satellites, radar, the forecast trajectory, and the previous path the storm is on, giving us an indication how the path is changing in real time.

The WFLA Wobble Tracker will remain actively streaming 24/7 until landfall, which is expected to take place somewhere on the west coast of Florida.

Watch Tracking the Tropics on Tuesdays at 12:30 p.m. ET/11:30 a.m. CT.
