TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) - Typical summer thunderstorms develop along I-75 late in the afternoon and then dissipate towards the Gulf of Mexico later.

Tomorrow morning starts off dry, but showers and thunderstorms develop to the southeast in the afternoon and rapidly move towards the west in the afternoon. Another round of storms develops in the evening and continues through the overnight hours as the tropical wave approaches the Florida peninsula within the next 48 hours.

Sunday looks like a washout as Potential Tropical Cyclone 4 reaches the west coast of Florida. This system has not fully developed yet, but the National Hurricane Center predicts this system will likely become a tropical storm by Sunday evening. If this disturbance does strengthen into a tropical storm, it will be named Debby.

This system will bring torrential rainfall, along with the threat of inland and coastal flooding, and even an isolated tornado.

The Euro model suggests that the Tampa Bay area will receive 3-6" of rain, while the GFS model calls for closer to 4-8" of precipitation. Actual total rainfall accumulation from this wave is still uncertain and can change in the coming days.

Rain continues through early next week, then the sea-breeze early evening thunderstorms return by late next week.
