Intense downpours late in the day

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) - After a dry start to the day, storms begin to develop in the early afternoon. The storms increase in coverage and intensity through the day. Some of the heaviest rain will be along and west of I-75 early this evening.

With the recent rain and saturated ground, some brief street flooding is possible in areas that get another round of downpours today.

Before the storms develop, temperatures reach the low 90s with heat index values 103-108.

We get another round of afternoon and early evening storms tomorrow. The downpours won't be quite as intense, and they may not push all the way to the coast in the evening as we start a slight wind pattern change.

By Friday, the afternoon showers develop and drift toward the east coast, so our overall coverage of rain will be lower.

A stalling cold front helps create a few showers earlier in the day this weekend. While we will still see a good coverage of rain, the intensity of the downpours will be less. The earlier rain and extra clouds keep highs a few degrees cooler.

We are keeping an eye on three tropical waves, but none of them has a strong chance to develop over the next 7 days.
