TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — If you're planning to head to the beach Thursay, keep aware of potential dangers from the wind.

The National Weather Service issued high surf advisories for Hillsborough, Manatee, Sarasota, Pinellas, Charlotte, and Lee counties.

The advisory will remain in effect from 4 a.m. Thursday to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Large waves up to 9 feet can be expected in the surf zone. This can lead to dangerous swimming and surf conditions, as well as beach erosion.

Inexperienced swimmers are asked to stay out of the water, as there is also a high rip current risk.

"Swim near a lifeguard," the NWS said. "If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help."
