Increasing rain chances with tropical system

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) - Today will be a typical summer afternoon with highs in the low-mid 90s and a 50% chance of storms that drift toward the Gulf of Mexico in the evening.

It should be a little breezier tomorrow as the tropical wave enters the southern Gulf of Mexico. The rain chance increases to 60% through the day, and the storm push quickly to the west. Highs remain the low-mid 90s.

At this point, Sunday looks like widespread downpours as the tropical system is near our coast. The strength of the system is still highly uncertain, but the tropical moisture brings us plenty of heavy rain. Watch for flooding from the rain, but there may also be coastal flooding from the onshore wind flow on the southern side of the system.

The GFS model is more aggressive in developing the wave into a tropical storm, but the Euro is weaker. Both models take the system across north Florida early next week and into the Atlantic.

This forecast will continue to change as the system develops, so stay tuned.
